Our Pinellas Club experienced a new area of community involvement in October. We sent one of our members to participate in the dance competition (yes, it was Dancing With the Stars) in the annual fundraising event known as Hands Across the Bay.

Hands Across the Bay was developed to positively impact the lives of as many Tampa Bay residents as possible. They assist and mentor hardworking families in need, advocate for change, support other organizations, and spread love with various acts of kindness. Through their work, they inspire our community to become more compassionate, empathetic, and charitable. This year’s beneficiaries were: Kimberly Home of Clearwater, Pinellas Safe Harbor, A Kid’s Place, and the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.

Our very own Dr. Carole Medvesky was one of ten celebrity dancers. She and her dance pro Richard Roberts worked tirelessly for 8 weeks prior to the October 1, 2016 program to create and rehearse a dynamic hustle routine to the popular tune, “Can’t Stop the Feeling” (Justin Timberlake). We were so proud of her impressive performance as she represented us well.

In addition to the practice sessions, Dr Carole who has her own dentistry practice in Clearwater, FL, asked her patients, friends, colleagues, and family members to VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! Online, that is, FOR HER! Yes, these were votes that could be purchased at $1 each. She raised over $3000 for HATB in this online part of the competition alone. Other means were donations made during the evening of the program and a silent auction. The total amount of funds raised for this year’s event was $270,000.

Dr Carole has expressed her gratitude to all who supported her in this cause. “I feel so blessed, humbled, and grateful to have been a part of this. I loved every minute of the journey. It was a unique opportunity that few people are able to experience. We celebrity dancers bonded with each other, our instructors, and with the wonderful coordinators of the event. There is a great deal of good that this event spreads to our community and I was honored to be involved. I look forward to next year’s program, but hopefully from the audience perspective!”
