Show Your Support by SHOWING UP!

So much is happening just prior to and during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October).

Some reminders:

DRAG QUEEN BINGO FUNDRAISER

hamburger_marys_2016-09-15_zonta_dateOne of our biggest fundraisers of the year is happening Monday–September 26–at Hamburger Mary’s in Clearwater. We are playing Drag Queen Bingo with Stephanie and Hamburger Mary’s patrons, starting at 7:30 PM.  Among other community support opportunities, this fundraiser enables our Club to:

donate money and in-kind resources to DV survivors at the RCS Haven and human trafficking victims;

award scholarships to enable hardworking young women to enter or stay in college;

and host educational events on healthy relationships for high school teens and college students.

Call Hamburger Mary’s to reserve a table for your group or come and join one of the Zonta group tables.  Come at 6 to have a great dinner and glass of wine to put you in the right mood for fun bingo.  See you there.

DANCING WITH THE STARS–BOGO

dancingwstarsnew_300pxOur Zonta member, Dr. Carole Medvesky, is dancing with the stars of Tampa Bay on October 1.  This Hands Across the Bay event raises money for charities in the Tampa Bay area including Wheels for Success (gently used cars for low-income working moms), Voices for Children (benefiting Guardian Ad Litem services), and CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse) among other worthy nonprofits.

You can help in two ways:

Buy tickets to the event on October 1 at the TPepin Hospitality center.  Call or email Dee at 727.573.7720, ext 1 or dee@handsacrossthebay.com to get more information and buy tickets.  This formal dress event will be elegant, eye-opening, and entertaining for sure! Zonta Pinellas might also have a couple seats still available at its table. Email Dr. Carole at medvesky.smiles@verizon.net.

Go to the HandsAcrosstheBay.org website today and Wednesday to vote for Dr. Carole.  They have a matching promotion happening for the next 36 hours–so every $1 vote you cast for Dr. Carole will draw down another dollar–to raise money for the nonprofits and elevate Dr. Carole in the competition for which dancers raise the most money. Maintain a record for the votes you cast because these expenditures are tax deductible.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS SEMI-ANNUAL INVENTORY SALE

dress_for_success_sale2016Finally, we alerted you last week to Dress for Success’s tremendous work on behalf of women seeking and retaining jobs. They attire and counsel low-income women referred to them from the Salvation Army, Department of Children and Family Services, DV shelters, etc. to help them entice good job offers in interviews.

Deal Divas, the “Always Frugal. Always Fabulous” fashion advice column at the Tampa Bay Times has written up the Semi-Annual Inventory Sale coming up on September 23–FRIDAY and September 24–SATURDAY for its exceptional deals, especially for smaller-sized women.  The DfS clients tend to be more full-figured and need larger sizes so the gently used clothing donations are sold to raise income for buying undergarments and other necessary clothing items.

So make it a lunch out with friends excursion on Friday or Saturday and come ready to buy, buy, buy!  $20 will go a very long way to help our less fortunate sisters!
