Did you know that the Greater Federation of Woman’s Clubs is older than Zonta International?
The General Federation of Woman’s Clubs International was founded in 1890, almost 30 years before Zonta’s establishment. However we share many goals and dedication to improving our local communities through volunteer hours and financial support.
In Pinellas County, our mutual projects benefit the RCS Food Bank, PACE Center for Girls, The Haven of RCS Domestic Violence Shelter, Women on the Way, and the Ronald McDonald House among others. The North Pinellas GFWC also distributes $500 and $1,000 grants to organizations such as the Community Dental Clinic, RCS, One Community Now (for at risk and homeless veterans) and the Eckerd Youth Alternatives Raising Hope.
The current president–C. Blakley, and incoming president–E. Hoffman of the North Pinellas Woman’s Club came to our July meeting to discuss local service activities and the 39th Annual Christmas Under the Oaks, an arts and crafts show on November 15. The Christmas Under the Oaks raises funds for local community service projects with over 150 arts and crafts vendors participating in the all-day event. Maybe there is a role that the Zonta Club can play to help raise funds for worthy community projects at this well-received community fundraising event.
