Zonta Pinellas Gets Headstart on Zonta’s 100th Anniversary

Friends help each other celebrate birthdays, right?  Especially if one of them is 100 years old, right?

So it was with the Zonta Pinellas Club and the city of Clearwater.  Clearwater held its first parade in years on May 30, 2015 to pay tribute to its 100 years of existence through challenges, both natural and man made.   Clearwater is the county seat for Pinellas, where our Zonta Pinellas members live and work.

Donna Lancaster, president of our Club, recognized the potential of the parade for educating the citizens of Clearwater about Zonta’s civic activities.  We walked 2 miles west toward the setting sun on the Intracoastal waterway, prepared with beads, Zonta tshirts and bandannas to throw to potential Zonta members and the many children lining the parade route.  Many times, observers, upon reading our signs on the Human Trafficking Task Force and domestic violence shelter programs that we support with donations and advocacy, clapped and yelled out their thanks.  We felt very affirmed and popular!
