Young Women Awarded $1,000 Scholarships

What a great way to honor & celebrate passion, perseverance, and plain ol’ grit!  The Zonta Club of Pinellas awarded scholarships on May 24 to two deserving, hard working, brilliant young women in our area.

Amber Pierson, a graduating senior from Hillsborough High School, came to the scholarship ceremony with several family members, including her parents Mike and Joy, a sister and niece.  Amber received the Young Women in Public Affairs award and a $1,000 check from our Club for her extensive public service activities while completing her high school degree and accumulating as many college credits as she could tackle while still in high school. Amber has joined our group and is exploring the potential of a volleyball or tennis tournament fundraiser to raise moneys for victims of human trafficking over the summer before she heads away to full-time college work in the Fall. Joanna Boruk, a master’s degree student studying public administration at the University of South Florida, came to the ceremony with her mother cheering her on. We awarded Joanna the Jane M. Klausman Scholarship and $1,000 for her exemplary academic record.

These young women inspire us all to be the best we can be, regardless of our age or occupation.
